Microsoft ($MSFT), Alphabet ($GOOGL, $GOOG) and Goldman Sachs ($GS) have objected to tokenized versions of their shares trading on OKXICE, the planned 24/7 venue from crypto exchange OKX and NYSE parent Intercontinental Exchange, according to the venue's updated public notice dated Oct. 19. Qualcomm ($QCOM), Caterpillar ($CAT), McDonald's ($MCD) and Western Digital ($WDC) joined them, taking the list to 16 companies, up from nine in the Oct. 15 notice, Decrypt reported.
The notice doesn't say why any of them objected. By CoinDesk's count, 15 of the 62 companies on OKXICE's original roster have now objected; the 16th, Cerebras Systems, wasn't on that roster.
An objection has real teeth. Under the SEC's five-year "Innovation Exemption," a timely objection bars the venue from offering a token of that stock, and it applies only to the venue that sent the notice, The Block reported.
There's a wrinkle, though. The Oct. 19 notice adds that the venue may also list stocks tokenized by the companies themselves, not just by outside parties, and Decrypt notes neither notice says whether objecting keeps a stock off the platform.
OKXICE co-chair Andrew Cuomo called the pushback "a very natural response" on a Tuesday press call, per CoinDesk, saying many companies "would want to wait and see how it goes rather than be the first to participate." He told Cointelegraph the notices were "not objections."
If you hold these names, the objections only limit which stock tokens this one venue can offer. For anyone eyeing tokenized stocks, more blue chips have opted out before launch, and OKXICE's own notice warns that token prices come from its automated liquidity pools and may differ from the underlying stock's price.
